What?

MYP eAssessment AwardAt the Bett Show, representatives from the International Baccalaureate (IB) will be showcasing the innovative on-screen examinations that are taken by 16-year-old students upon completion of the IB Middle Year’s Programme (MYP).

The MYP on-screen examinations have been awarded Best Use of Summative Assessment and were highly commended for Best Transformational Project at this year’s e-Assessment Awards.

Why?

For Generation Z and the forthcoming Generation Alpha, technology is just part of day-to-day life.  The IB is successfully incorporating technology into education to complement IB pedagogy: providing teachers with a variety of tools, processes and resources to not only enhance the learning process further, but to assess students in a contemporary manner that they are familiar with.

A key element of MYP on-screen examinations is the focus on inquiry, communication and critical thinking skills, with only 25 percent of the evaluation based on knowledge and understanding. This forward-thinking approach to assessment provides students with an opportunity to express themselves in assessments, as well as the scope to interact with images, visual texts, videos and complex models.

We have been a ‘laptop school’ for ten years. The eAssessments are pushing us further to tap into the possibilities that a technology-pervasive environment affords.” - David and Michele Mindorff, Middle Years Programme Coordinators at Lyford Cay International School in the Bahamas
